Playing Checkers in Minecraft

I played a lot of Minecraft yesterday (12/23/2010), and made a lot of random decorative things (a floating island, a couple temples, et cetera). Among these was a checkerboard. Why not a chessboard? Well, minecraft doesn't have enough variety of movable pieces to play chess. Apomegranite and I used powered minecarts for black pieces, and storage minecarts for brown (white? red?) pieces. We used cobblestone blocks for my kings, and wooden blocks for his kings.

Then we played checkers. In Minecraft. I was black, he was brown. We used cobblestone blocks for my "king" pieces, and blocks of wood for his. We occasionally embellished our king pieces while waiting for the other person to move. Neither of us are very good at checkers, so our abilities about matched. Many Minecraft days passed as we played. It was fun.

I didn't catalogue every move, but here are 19 screenshots of the game, including the aftermath. (Apomegranite got down to one piece left (a king), against my three kings, built up a tower on his piece, and "fired the cannons". "Firing the cannons" apparently means breaking my pieces with a pickaxe. Then I blew up his tower with a block of TNT. And then I rebuilt the glass wall which had been nearby.)
